Breakdown of amount received

To encourage people to test out and adopt this sustainable mode of travel, the ARTM has worked with the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable in order to implement attractive compensation for all drivers who carpool across one of the four links between Montréal and Montréal’s South Shore:

  • the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel
  • the Jacques-Cartier Bridge
  • the Victoria Bridge
  • the Samuel De Champlain Bridge

Learn about the two components making up driver payment

  1. Passenger payment

Each passenger pays the driver $0.10 per km for a trip. Regardless of how much you travel, you’re entitled to this payment.

  2. Financial incentive

To encourage drivers to make their vehicles available for carpooling and to help relieve traffic in the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel during major repair work, the ARTM is also offering an additional incentive of $0.24 for each kilometre travelled when a trip passes over one of the four cross-river links between Montréal and Montréal’s South Shore.

When a trip involves crossing one of these links, this incentive is automatically added to the overall payment.

The maximum payment for a driver is $0.54/km. This maximum amount complies with the provisions under the Act respecting remunerated passenger transportation by automobile. To benefit from this payment, you must cross one of the four links between Montréal and Montréal’s South Shore during a trip with three passengers on board.

Virtual wallet

With the Covoiturage ARTM platform, you can easily manage your received payments and see your accumulated amount for the month in real time. As a driver, the amount in your virtual wallet can be withdrawn on a monthly basis.
