How the carpooling platform works

If you want to carpool as a driver and/or passenger, check out the following steps

Register as a driver

If you own a vehicle and want to share your commute with one or more passengers, register as a driver and get paid based on the trips you make. Payment is tax-exempt. Find out how to become a driver:

Steps

  1. Create your driver profile by providing some basic information (first and last name, age, vehicle model, colour, licence plate number, etc.) You will also need to add a profile picture.
  2. Enter a starting point and destination in the platform
  3. Choose the number of passengers you wish to have
  4. Launch the search

Before registering as a driver, you must meet the following two criteria:

  • Have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence (learner’s permits are not accepted) 
  • Have your vehicle insured for trips with passengers

Cash back per kilometre when using one of the following four cross-river links: the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, the Victoria Bridge and the Samuel De Champlain Bridge.

*The payment mechanism may be subject to change. Where possible, Covoiturage ARTM  users will be notified. 

**The maximum number of passengers is limited to three for the sake of comfort and to comply with the Act respecting remunerated passenger transportation by automobile. 

Good to know

  • You can receive payment for a maximum of two trips per day, i.e., one round trip
  • The amounts you earn as a driver are only transferred to your virtual wallet once the trip has been completed with the passenger(s).
  • The platform will provide you with a virtual wallet that you can withdraw money from once a month.

Register as a passenger

If you want to be paired with a vehicle owner and commute with them and one or more passengers, register as a passenger and get around at a great rate! Learn how to become a passenger:

Steps

  1. Create your passenger profile by providing some basic information (first and last name, age). You will also need to add a profile picture.
  2. Enter a starting point and destination in the platform
  3. Launch your search to be paired with a driver
  4. Enter your trip(s) into the application to be paired with a driver

Cost

A trip costs $0.12 per kilometre for a single passenger. This cost is based on the total distance travelled by the driver from starting point to destination.

Good to know

  • After launching the search for a carpooler, you can choose whether or not you want to be matched with the proposed driver.
  • The trip’s total cost will be visible in the platform before confirming the pairing.
  • You cannot select a trip if it exceeds the amount available in your customer account on the platform.
  • You may also cancel your pairing if your needs change after booking a trip.
